Virginia will legalize marijuana, but lawmakers need to settle on timetable

Votes in the General Assembly on Tuesday will ensure that Virginia will legalize marijuana. Retail sales are slated to begin in 2024, but lawmakers must hash out key details on whether to make possession of marijuana legal by July 1. The Virginia Senate and House of Delegates, who are both under democratic control, passed legislation Feb. 5 to legalize use and possession for those over 21.

Spectator limit to be expanded for outdoor sports in Virginia

Virginia Governor Ralph Northam announced in a news conference Wednesday that coronavirus numbers and hospitalizations are going down, while vaccine administrations are going up. Northam announced that starting Monday, limits on spectators of outdoor sporting events would be expanded to 250 people. The Northam Administration says they are also working to resume overnight summer camps.

Dentists, med students can give COVID-19 vaccines in Va.

In Virginia, dentists will be among those eligible to administer COVID-19 vaccines after Gov. Ralph Northam signed new legislation into law that expands the eligibility of health care workers who can administer vaccines during the pandemic. The law will expand the pool of those eligible to dentists, medical students, and other clinicians.
