Broadcast News Notes

The National news program that I viewed was “America this week: United we Stand”. A big audio/visual impact that I noticed right away is that while it’s nice to know who is talking, as in to have a face to the voice that you’re hearing as opposed to radio, but I noticed that it’s a lot easier to get distracted by what the person is saying than it is in radio because in radio the only thing that there is is the person’s voice, but in broadcast, you can see the person and see everything with the tv studio or news studio and it’s a lot easier to get distracted by things outside of what the person delivering the news is saying. I also noticed that in broadcast when they’re talking about the news that they deliver it, or talk a bit slower than in radio news, because of how I said previously that it’s easier to be distracted when watching the news being broadcasted.

The timeliness doesn’t seem to be too different in broadcast news than in print news or radio news, but I think it could be easier to work on the timing of the news that they break or deliver because talking, obviously, is faster than writing or printing the news. Overall I would say that the timing of broadcast news is relatively the same, albeit with a small sample size that I have, as print or radio news.

The information was displayed in an interesting way to me because in broadcast news, they were able to talk while the show was displaying videos, charts, and other things that were relative to what they were talking about, mostly obviously about the coronavirus or something that is an effect of the coronavirus, for example on the program that I watched they talked with a domestic violence victim advocate about how in-home violence has increased quite a bit in most states and in America in general due to the amount of people who are being forced to stay home because of the coronavirus and their self-quarantine and isolation. They also showed quotes from other people that have been affected by the coronavirus while the anchor was delivering the news, for example, they also talked about how inmates in a Maryland prison were being affected and being forced to stay in their prison cell even moreso than usual because of the coronavirus and its’ implications.
